Frances S. Gruver, 84, a resident of Round Bay in Severna Park for 60 years, died of respiratory failure Feb. 19 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie after a brief illness.

Mrs. Gruver was born Aug. 29, 1922, in the Dominican Republic, the daughter of military parents. She grew up in Catonsville, and during World War II served as an ensign in the Navy Nurse Corps.

In 1945 she married J. Robert Gruver Sr., who died in 1968. A homemaker, she also worked as the school nurse for St. John the Evangelist Catholic School in Severna Park from 1965 to 1972. She later was a nurse at Fairfield Nursing Home in Crownsville for nearly 10 years. At age 50 she received her Realtor's license and worked for Henderson Realty for a number of years.

Mrs. Gruver was very active in the Round Bay Swim Team program.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Frances Gruver Byers of Essex; three sons, Joseph H. Gruver of Arnold, J. Robert Gruver Jr. of Huntingtown and J. Thomas Gruver of Cape St. Claire; one sister, Gloria Watson Carrion of Catonsville; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Services will be announced. Burial will be in Loudon Park Cemetery in Baltimore. Online condolences may be made to www.barrancofuneralhome.com

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. tomorrow at St. Andrew by the Bay Catholic Church, 701 College Parkway near Cape St. Claire, for Frances S. Gruver, 84, who died of respiratory arrest Feb. 19 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway.
