Florence Averella (née Aust), 85, a resident of Arnold, Maryland unexpectedly passed away September 3, 2024. Known affectionally as: Flo, Floss, Nanny or Nanny Flo to many. Florence was born on September 25, 1938 to the late William Aust and Florence Aust (née Finkbeiner). She was educated in the Willow Grove Public School System in Willow Grove, PA. Florence met and later married the love of her life Anthony Averella. Florence and Anthony began their married life in Baltimore, MD before planting their roots in Arnold, MD in 1986. Florence spent most of her years as a full-time mother however, she also worked as a waitress at the Donut Haven in Pennsylvania, a manager at Suburban Industrial Maintenance, branch manager for the Baltimore Sun, and finally she retired as a carrier for the Capital Gazette in 1994.
Flo had a love for gardening, relaxing in the pool, road trips, and cruising with her husband and daughter. She loved getting her hair and nails done, playing cards, going to the casino, spending time with family and TSB, a good margarita, and most of all she loved her cats.
In addition to her parents, Flo was preceded in death by her loving husband of 35 years, Anthony Averella. She leaves behind to cherish her memories, her children: Deborah Schafer, Raymond Lauer (Linda), Kathleen Barbato, David Lauer (Michelle), and Victoria Averella Mundell (Stephen). Flo is also survived by seven grandchildren: Andrew Lauer, Kelly Rodriguez (Amilcar), Robert Barbato Jr (Emily), David Lauer Jr, Leslie Lauer, Erika Lauer, and Joshua Barbato (Krissy), as well as 16 great grandchildren.
Viewings for Florence will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 2p-4p and 6p-8p. The funeral services will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 11am at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home; 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD 21146. Burial will follow at 12pm at Lakemont Memorial Gardens; 900 W Central Avenue, Davidsonville MD.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Anne Arundel County Animal Control (cash or checks made payable to Friends of AACACC, Inc.)
Family and friends will gather at O'Loughlin's Restaurant in Arnold, MD if anyone would like to join them.
