Evelyn Light Shute, 82, died April 8, 2013 at Maryland General Hospital after a long illness. A Severna Park resident for over 29 years, Evelyn was an active member in her community and church.
Evelyn was born at home during a blizzard in Lebanon, PA on January 18, 1931. She was the fourth child of Grant Hobart and Martha Kohr Light. She graduated from Harrisburg Poly Clinic Hospital School of Nursing. Evelyn worked as a nurse at the hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and met her husband, Howard E. Shute, there. They were married on May 26, 1956. Howard joined the Navy a few years later, and they enjoyed a full life together traveling extensively both abroad and in the US. Evelyn thoroughly enjoyed her role as a Navy wife, and spent many hours hosting coffees, lunches, and dinner parties and volunteering for Navy Relief, but she was happiest spending time with her husband and family.
Evelyn is predeceased by a daughter, Martha Ann, who died in September 1962. She is survived by her husband, Howard; daughter, Nancy Landry and son-in-law Bryan Landry of Woodbine, MD; son, David Shute and daughter-in-law Amy Shute of Rocky River, OH; four grandchildren, Karen Landry of Columbia, MD, Laura Landry of Woodbine, MD, Ted Corvey of Charleston, SC, and Alex Corvey of St. Augustine, FL. She is also survived by 2 sisters, Isabelle Cress and Marie Boehler, both of Lebanon, PA.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 13th, 2013 at 10 am at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church of Annapolis 1601 Pleasant Plains Rd. Annapolis, MD 21409.
