Evelyn Frances Douglas (nee Van Buskirk), 89, a 58 year resident of Severna Park, MD, died on December 26, 2009 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, from complications of pneumonia, after a brief illness.

She was born on June 22, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Queens, NY, where she graduated from John Adams High School. She moved to Baltimore during WWII and graduated from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 1972, with a Bachelor of Arts in English. Mrs. Douglas resided in Severna Park and taught fifth grade at Cape Saint Claire Elementary School for over thirteen years before her retirement in 1985.

She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, where she taught RCIA , was a lecturer, Eucharistic Minister, involved in ministry of sick, belonged to the St. John choir and St. John Resurrection Choir; a member of Catholic Daughters for 50+ years (Court Annapolis); past volunteer at Meridian Nursing Center; member of Baltimore Civic Opera Guild; participated in a choir that sung in Rome for the Pope; sang in Savoy Opera Guild in NYC; sang at President Truman's daughter's 23rd birthday; and devoted member of Thomas Merton Society.

She enjoyed playing the piano, painting, art, music, genealogy, singing, reading, traveling to Fatima, Ireland, Scotland, Paris, England, and Rome.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, Donald N. Douglas, Sr.,and her late sister, Mildred A. Falk.

Survivors include four daughters, Donna F. Douglas of Owings Mill, MD, Dianne P. Douglas of Edgewater, MD, Kathleen E. Douglas of Severna Park, MD and Therese M. Douglas of Columbia, MD; one son, Donald N. Douglas, Jr. of Phoenix, MD; and one granddaughter, Alison Sefton of Minneapolis, MN.

Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 from 2-4 pm and
6-8 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Gov. Ritchie Hwy, in Severna Park. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2009 at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146. Interment will be held on Monday, January 04, 2010 at 11:30 AM at MD Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Baltimore, 2305 N. Charles Street, Suite 300, Baltimore, MD 21218.
