Evangelia "Nina" Voelp, 87, passed away peacefully at home in Pasadena, Maryland on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 after a brief illness and hospital stay. Much of her beloved family was with her in her last hours. She had the opportunity to tell those with her how much she loved and cared for them, and they the same.

She was born March 24, 1933 in Rhodes, Greece to Vasilios Nimorakiotakis and Irini Mavrakis Nimorakiotaki. Survivors include her daughter Carla Voelp Rosenblum and her companion Douglas (Chip) O'Neil, Jr. of Howell, Michigan, her son William G. Voelp and his wife Brooke Wright Voelp of Pasadena, Maryland. Her surviving grandchildren are Leah Rosenblum Hughes and her husband Bill Hughes, Carl Rosenblum and his companion Shannon Severn, Corrine Voelp Bouffard and her husband Alex Bouffard, and Jacob Carl Voelp and his wife Hannah Northup Voelp. She also leaves behind four beloved great grandchildren Hailey Hughes, Jarrett Hughes, Braden Hughes and her name sake Evangelia Karis Bouffard. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl William Voelp, her siblings Mary Williams, Nick Nimorakiotakis, Lelos Nimorakiotakis, Margarita Nimorakiotakis, Alexandros Nimorakiotakis, and Evania Nimorakiotaki. She is also survived by numerous cousins and nephews and nieces who also love her dearly from all over the globe.

Nina grew up in Rhodes, Greece during Mussolini Fascist control until 1943 and several years under German rule after the Battle of Rhodes in September 1943. After May 8, 1945 the Germans surrendered Rhodes and it was officially joined back to Greece in 1947. Nina remembered the war vividly and was still impacted by thunderstorms which sounded like the bombing of her youth. Her father Vasilios never took the family out of their home during the air raids but was visited by God in a dream that their home would be bombed and left the home the following day with the entire family and their house was destroyed. They lived in shelters and off dandelions to eat for a period of time. Nina could remember having to sell her only remaining toy, a curly haired blonde boy doll dressed like a soldier, to have some food for the family.

Shortly after the war, around the age of 14 years old, Nina went to work full time at the IKAROS pottery factory as a free hand painter of pottery. She was very skilled and worked at IKAROS for about 12 years until she had to care for her mother.

Her sister Mary Nimorakiotaki Williams married a Bernard Williams, a member of the US Coast Guard and emigrated from Rhodes to the United States. A short time later, arrangements were made to bring Nina to the US in 1962. There she met her future husband, Carl William Voelp, at the local IGA in Pasadena owned by Carl's cousins. At the time of their meeting Nina only knew the word "Coca Cola" in English. Carl had a teen-aged daughter Carla Lee Voelp Rosenblum when they met and then subsequently were married in 1965. Their son William George Voelp was born in 1966.

Nina had a blessed life with Carl. They lived from 1969 to present in Pasadena, Maryland surrounded by family with whom they shared a tremendous love. The grandchildren and family from Michigan, whom Nina and Carl loved deeply, would visit often. Their son Bill Voelp and

his immediate family counted it amazing joy to care for both Carl and Nina throughout their final years.

Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family and friends and cooking incredibly delicious Greek cuisine. She treasured time spent in person and on the phone, or "Greeking" as Carl Voelp would often say with her closest friends, whom she adored. She was an avid Bible reader and was always praying, just like her beloved husband. She loved to vacation in Ocean City with her family. Always at church on Sunday, she worshipped at St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox church in Annapolis, Maryland.

Due to COVID considerations, family and friends may attend a funeral service at the gravesite on Monday, November 23, 2020 at 11:30AM at Meadowridge Memorial Park located at 7250 Washington Blvd, Elkridge, MD 21075. Please arrive at 11:00AM because there will be a procession following the funeral director to the grave site. Enter the cemetery from the first entrance while heading south on Washington Boulevard.

Having a modern Greek translated Bible greatly impacted Nina's relationship with the Lord. So, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hellenic Ministries at www.hellenicministries.org/give/. You can earmark your donation for Operation Joshua Bibles which puts modern Greek translations into the hands of every house in Greece in Evangelia Voelp's name.
