Ernest Grimes
Ernest F. Grimes, 81, of Arnold, died at home July 3 after a three-year illness with cancer.
Mr. Grimes was born on March 19, 1926, in Baltimore. He served in the Navy during World War II, participating in the invasions of Iowa Jima and Okinawa. He was a retired refrigeration mechanic at the former David W. Taylor Naval Ship Research and Development Center.
He was a member of American Legion Post 175. His interests included gardening, fishing and outdoor cooking.
His survivors include two daughters, Margaret Divine and Sheila Conley, both of Arnold; one son, Ernest P. Grimes of Westminster; one sister, Ann Stein of Baltimore; one brother, Earl G. Grimes of Baltimore; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was the husband of the late Doris H. Grimes, father of the late Charlotte Clark and brother of the late James Grimes.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, where the service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Meadowridge Memorial Park, 7250 Washington Blvd., Elkridge.
