Emory R. Kopf Jr., 69, of Arnold, died of complications due to cancer on Sept. 23 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Kopf was born in Annapolis and raised in the Manhattan Beach community of Severna Park. He graduated from Annapolis High School and served in the Air Force.

From 1961 to 1981 he was an air traffic controller, and then worked at the National Aeronautical and Space Administration from 1981 to 1993. For the past 12 years he worked in defense electronics.

His interests were sailing, fishing, racing and restoring cars. He held a private pilot's license and enjoyed computers, electronics and woodworking.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia J. Purdum Kopf; two sons, Steven R. Kopf of Augusta, GA, and Michael A Kopf of Victor, ID, and one daughter, Laura J. Hirsch of Odenton.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Gloria Dei! Lutheran Church in Arnold. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.
