Emory A. Hopkins, 94, a Cape St. Claire resident since 1954, died August 23 at the Annapolitan Assisted Living facility where he has been since April of this year. He and his sons built his house in Cape St. Claire and moved there permanently in 1974.


He was born in Baltimore and later resided in Bladensburg. Emory was married to Eileen Robinson Hopkins (Hoppy, the jelly lady) for 69 years until her death in 2001. He is the loving father of the late William H. Hopkins recently of PA (wife Barbara Parker and children Roxanna L. Owens, William R. Hopkins and James E. Hopkins); Kenneth D. Hopkins of North Carolina (wife Sandy Hovis and children Del and Chip Hopkins), Dianna Hopkins of Florida (children Joe and Chris Salamone) Richard D. Hopkins of Annapolis (wife Kitty Kernan); and niece Willetta Harig (husband Don Snyder and children Ralph and Russell). He had many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.


Mr. Hopkins retired from the Government Printing Office in D.C. and had his own print shop for many years, retiring permanently at the age of 92. He and his wife were very active in the National Dahlia Society and their yard was always covered with beautiful dahlias.


Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 25th at the Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home in Severna Park, MD, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 26th.
