Elsie R. Carlile, 89, of Catonsville and formerly a resident of Severna Park for 36 years, died of complications from Alzheimer's disease Feb. 17 at the Charlestown Care Center after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Carlile was born Jan. 27, 1918, in Philadelphia, Pa., She lived in Glen Burnie for four years before moving to Severna Park. She retired from the National Security Agency after 25 years of service.
Her interests included swimming, tennis and golf. In her younger years she was a gymnast and was a national gymnastics champion in 1943. She was a member of the National Genealogy Club.
Surviving are her husband, William L. Carlile; one daughter, Joan S. Jones of Severna Park; one son, William L. Carlile Jr. of Mill Valley, Calif.; one sister, Edith Wetzel of West Chester, Pa.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Funeral services are private. Burial will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
