Ellen Nadine Mathison, 80, a resident of Shipleys Choice in Millersville since 1979, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 16, 2013 at her home in Millersville after a long illness.

She was born on December 29, 1932 in Summit, NJ to the late Charles G. Walters and Dorothy Reeves Walters.

Ellen graduated from the Nursing School at All Souls Hospital in Morristown, NJ. She worked as a Registered Nurse until she married her husband Ted on December 3, 1955 in Basking Ridge, NJ. She then became a homemaker. After their children left home, she owned and operated the West Coast Video store in Millersville.
She loved being with her family, sewing clothing for her children and grandchildren along with baking. She also enjoyed bowling, music, knitting, flowers, making floral arrangements and watching birds in her backyard.
She was a member of the Severna Park United Methodist Church where she sang in the Sanctuary Choir for over 30 years. Ellen also participated in the Ann Arrundell County Historical Society for many years and was involved in the annual Strawberry Festival.

Ellen is survived by her husband Theodore E. "Ted" Mathison to whom she was married for over 58 years, and her children, Kevin T. Mathison of Millersville, Lisa J. Carpenter and her husband Michael R. Carpenter also of Millersville, and Scott D. Mathison and his wife Andrea Valderrama of Surfside, FL. She was grandmother of Lauren and her husband Michael Horn, Caitlyn, Chad and Isabella. She was also the sister of the late Dr. Verle I. Walters.

Friends may visit at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home on Thursday, December 19, 2013 from 3-5 and 7-9 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at the Severna Park United Methodist Church, 731 Benfield Road, Severna Park, MD on Friday, December 20, 2013 at 11:00 am. A private interment will be in the Church Memorial Garden.

Memorial Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, MD 21122 and the Severna Park United Methodist Church, Music Ministry, 731 Benfield Road, Severna Park, MD 21146-2298.
