IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ellen
Burton
February 11, 1957 – November 25, 2022
Ellen McCoy Burton, age 65, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 25, 2022, with her loving husband Lenny Burton, by her side. The cause of death was Huntington's Disease, which Ellen fought bravely for five years.
Ellen was born February 11, 1957, in Danville, Illinois, and was the daughter of Jim and Angie McCoy. Shortly after graduating from Danville High School she moved to Annapolis where she worked as a waitress at Fran O-Brien's Restaurant. She then attended the University of Maryland where she earned a degree in nursing, and became a registered nurse. Ellen worked as a cardiology nurse at the Washington Hospital Center and at Anne Arundel Medical Center for 25 years. After retiring she volunteered at Hospice of the Chesapeake, working as a caregiver to hospice patients.
Ellen enjoyed traveling with her husband Lenny, walking with her dogs Tara and Lily, hiking, scuba diving, gardening, reading and attending concerts and theater productions. She also loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Lenny, sisters Kasi Mitchell (Bob), Donna McCoy (Charles), Jana McCoy, brothers Rick (Juanita), and Dennis (Mary). She is also survived by sisters-in-law Kathy Holland (Rob) and Jeanne Fryer (Alton), and by her many nieces and nephews. Ellen was pre-deceased by her parents Jim and Angie McCoy, and by her brother Jimmy McCoy.
Ellen touched so many lives with her kindness and great joy, and all who knew her and loved her. She will be sorely missed.
A family service will be held in the future.
