Schmidlein, Elizabeth (Betsy) C.

Age 94, Betsy passed away peacefully with family and friends surrounding her, January 14, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, and siblings Alexander Clark and Winthrop Clark. She will be dearly missed by her sister Jane Atkins, son Jeffrey Schmidlein, daughter in law Faith Hackett, daughter Carol Margolis, son in law Bruce Margolis, her three grandchildren Eva Margolis, Patrick and Nicole Schmidlein, and one great grandchild, Amina Brewer. She is also survived by her niece and nephews.

Betsy was born August 21, 1920 in Stamford Connecticut and lived there, on Long Island Sound, for most of her childhood. Her parents were Winthrop and Virginia Clark. She graduated from Low-Heywood High School in 1938, and received her B.A. from Duke University in 1942. She married Joseph Anthony Schmidlein May 28, 1944. Betsy's passions were her children, her home, and ballroom dancing. She competed in and won many amateur ballroom dance championships in Ridgewood New Jersey, and later, in Savannah Georgia. She continued to dance well into her late 80s. Betsy will be remembered for her charm, her sweet and generous nature, her love of family, and for her love of Manhattan cocktails and ice cream. Mama, you were the best! We miss you!
