Elizabeth A. Oberist, 84, of Severna Park, died of pneumonia Jan. 9 at Kernan Hospital in Baltimore after a short illness.

Mrs. Oberist was born March 16, 1921, reared in Gloversville, N.Y., and graduated from Gloversville High School in 1939. She also lived in Amsterdam, N.Y., and graduated from the Eastman School of Dentistry in 1940. She was employed by the Greater Amsterdam School System for 18 years as a dental hygienist.

She was a member of First Reformed Church in Amsterdam, the Montgomery Transitional Services and the Montgomery County Community Services Board. She helped to found the Muscular Dystrophy Chapter in Amsterdam.

Mrs. Oberist was an active member of Al-Anon for the past 26 years. She also was an active volunteer for Planned Parenthood's Annapolis health center for the past three years.

The widow of Clyde E. Oberist, she is survived by two daughters, Judy A. Oberist of Severna Park and Susan Gallanter of Denver, Colo.; one sister, Ethel Schaffer of Venice, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 21st, at Severna Park United Methodist Church, 731 Benfield Road. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.barrancofuneralhome.com.
