Elizabeth Ann Netherland (née Grubich), known as Betty Ann to her family and friends, passed away on April 5, 2026. Betty Ann was born in Aliquippa, PA on November 4, 1938, to the late Anne and John Grubich. She was predeceased by her husband Lt. Col. Wm H Netherland and her son, Michael John Netherland. She is survived by her children, Margaret Johnson (Robert), William H. Netherland Jr., (Melissa), and her daughter-in-law Dianne Netherland. Betty was a loving and generous grandmother to her 5 grandchildren Katherine, Michael (Carly), Eric (Brooke), Sara and Finn; and her great-granddaughter Hailey. She also is survived by her loving sister, Michele Nichols (Rick) her many nieces and nephews.
Betty Ann, and Bill were high school sweethearts, marrying as soon as Betty Ann graduated. Bill joined the Army and they and their young children traveled the world. Betty Ann always made their house a home, even in temporary quarters, and her Christmas Eve Open House was a must-attend from West Germany to Lawton Oklahoma. Betty Ann and Bill settled on the waterfront in Severna Park when Bill retired. Betty Ann was a successful real estate agent for many years in Anne Arundel County. In the last years of her life, Betty Ann was challenged by FTD, a type of dementia, which robbed her of so many beautiful memories of her rich and full life. Family and friends may visit on Saturday, April 11 from 1-3 pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A. 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD 21146. A catholic service will follow at the funeral home at 3 pm. Betty Ann will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery alongside her husband Bill at a time to be determined by the cemetery.
