Eleanor Marie Martin, nee Bogdan, a longtime resident of Cape St. Claire, passed away February 4, 2023 at Sunrise of Annapolis. She was 101 years old.
Eleanor or as she was fondly known, Miss Ellie, was born on January 6, 1922 to Henry and Viola Bogdan (nee Jablonski) in Baltimore, MD. She grew up in Baltimore and attended St. Patrick Primary School before graduating from Eastern High School. She married her late husband George I. Martin in 1942 and they raised their family in Cape St. Claire.
She was a founding member of St. Andrew by the Bay Catholic Church, where she participated in many organizations and committees, such as the St. Andrew Ladies Club. She was also a member of the CSC Garden club and worked as a crossing guard for St. Michael's school.
She enjoyed a good game of Pinochle, Scrabble, Bunko, or Mah Jong and some of her hobbies included reading, sewing, doing crafts, cooking and gardening. She was an avid fan of the Baltimore teams- the Orioles, Colts, and Ravens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George I. Martin and her daughter, Nancy L. Martin. She is survived by her children; Mary Ellen Ibe (Phil) of Waldorf MD, George H. Martin of Richmond Hill GA, Philip A. Martin (Linda) of Parkville MD, Gerry M. Farris (John) of Punta Gorda FL, Robert F. Martin (Lynne) of Virginia Beach VA, Richard A. Martin (Susan) of Alexandria VA, and Susan M. Turner (Steve) of Federalsburg MD; as well as 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Matthew Bogdan of Baltimore, MD.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday February 14 th , from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A., 495 Ritchie Hwy Severna Park MD 21146. Her funeral mass will be held on Wednesday February 15 th at 11am at St. Andrew by the Bay Catholic Church, 701 College Pkwy, Annapolis MD 21409. Interment will take place on Thursday February 16 th at 10am at the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 4430 Belair Rd, Baltimore MD 21206. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Andrew by the Bay Bereavement Reception Committee. Checks can be made out to the church with a memo stating it is for the Bereavement Reception Committee.
