Edwin Wesley Smith, 95, of Gambrills, MD passed away on November 29, 2010 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD after a lengthy illness.

Edwin was born on October 9, 1915 in New Berlin, NY to the late George W. and Edna Morse Smith. He grew up in Washington Mills and graduated from New Hartford High School. Mr. Smith served in the US Navy during WW II. He retired from the New Hartford School District, where he was employed as a Maintenance Engineer. He moved to Glen Burnie, MD in 1973 and later to Gambrills in 2004.

Mr. Smith was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Myrtle Dewire Smith in 2004; their daughter, JoAnn Smith Read in 2008; and his sisters, Evelyn Owens and Lucille Hoen.

He is survived by his sister, Marjorie Parsons of Sharon Springs, NY; his brothers, Lewis (Jane) of Washington Mills, NY, Kenneth (Dorothy) of Sauquoit, NY and Merritt (Sue) of Chadwicks, NY; as well as, many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Smith is also survived by his stepdaughter, Isobel Covert Seubert of New Oxford, PA; his stepson, E. Richard Covert (Angela) of New York City; his three step grandchildren, Mary Martha Gourley (Garry) of Waynesboro, PA, Ruth Ellen Paige (Marc) of Houston, TX and Christopher A. Covert (Suzanne) of Malibu, CA; and three step great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held in Pennsylvania at a later date.
