Edwin Julius Glatzel, born March, 1921, the son of August Julius and Violet Ellen (Sears) Glatzel. He was a big sports fan, played football at Poly, played shortstop on the Linstead Community Softball Team. He coached Green Hornets football, basketball, and baseball for a number of years. Enjoyed boating activities.
He served in the Navy during WWII on the USS Portland as an Electrician's Mate and earned 19 Battle Stars for service in the Pacific.
He worked for Montgomery Ward in the service department as a technician, trainer, and a manager for a total of 44 years before retiring in 1984.
He was married to Doris Ida Schemm for 57 years when she died in 2001.
Preceded in death by his parents, a brother (Gordon C. Glatzel) and one great granddaughter, Lillie Grace Glatzel.
He is survived by four children, Doris Elaine Kniess and husband, Bob, of Pasadena, MD; Barbara Ann Mettle and husband, John, of South Carolina; Edwin Jay and wife, Dee, of Ellicott City; and Gary Allen and wife, Janis, of Nevada; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law a niece, and a nephew.
Family and friends may visit on Tuesday July 12, 2011 from 2-4:00 & 6-8:00 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A Severna Park Funeral Home 495 Ritchie Hwy. Severna Park, MD 21146. A service will be held in the Barranco funeral home chapel on Wednesday July 13 at 12:00pm. Interment in Maryland Veterans Cemetery Crownsville, MD.
