Edward A. "Ed" Praley Sr., 80, a lifelong resident of Glen Burnie, died of heart failure Feb. 25 at Heritage Harbour Health and Rehabilitation Center after brief illness.
Mr. Praley was born Oct. 25, 1925, in Glen Burnie, where he graduated from Glen Burnie High School. He later graduated from the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville in Kentucky.
He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict.
From 1969 to 1975, he served as Chief of Police for Anne Arundel County.
Active in the community, he was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where he served as an usher, the Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge and the American Legion in Glen Burnie.
His interests included gardening and hunting.
He was the father of the late Margaret Praley Helms, who died in 1990. Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Lee Praley of Glen Burnie; four sons, James Praley of Annapolis, Edward Praley Jr. of Owings and Michael and Rudolph Praley of Severna Park; one brother, Albert Praley of Glen Burnie; one sister, Delores Graham of Glen Burnie; and 10 grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 7436 Baltimore and Annapolis Blvd. in Glen Burnie. Burial will follow in Glen Haven Cemetery in Glen Burnie.
