Edward Philip Loftus, 73, of Annapolis, died of sudden heart failure Aug. 1 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Born Jan. 11, 1934, and reared in Avoca, Pa., Mr. Loftus attended St. John's High School in Pittston, Pa., and served in the Navy during the Korean War. He graduated from Rutgers University and received a master of business administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Rutherford, N.J.
Previously a resident of Morris County, N.J., and Severna Park for 25 years, he moved to Baltimore and then to Annapolis. He worked for Mack Truck and retired from the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt in 1997 where he was a logistics manager.
Mr. Loftus loved biking and was an avid reader. He was a fan of local county sports and sports teams at the Naval Academy and the University of Maryland. Active in the community, he served on the Anne Arundel County Housing Authority, Metro Crime Stoppers, a Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Anne Arundel County Police Reserves.
Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Ann Piasecki Loftus; his children, Anne Aberdeen of Ellicott City, John C. Loftus of Seabeck, Wash., and Colleen Loftus of Elkridge; three sisters, Mary Teresa Gavigan of Pittston, Katherine Schoeps of Baltimore and Margaret Taylor of Harrisburg, Pa.; and four grandchildren. He was the son of the late Edward and Mary Loftus.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Barranco and Sons Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Services will be at noon Monday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park. Burial will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
