Edna Spilman
Edna Heinz Spilman, 77, of Pasadena died of cancer Dec. 30 in her home after a three-year illness.
Born Feb. 25, 1930, in Baltimore, she was a graduate of Western High School, earned a bachelor's degree from American University and earned a master's degree from Johns Hopkins University.
She was a school teacher at Saint Matthew's Catholic School from 1956 to 1965 and taught at Baltimore Highlands Elementary School from 1965 until her retirement in 1993.
After retirement, she became active in St. Peters Catholic Church in Libertytown.
She was a member of the Maryland State Teachers Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Women's Auxiliary, Bayside Beach Improvement Association and the Horizon Senior Group at St. Peters Catholic Church.
An avid reader, she enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, playing cards and loved to dance.
She is survived by her husband, Jerome Turner Spilman, whom she married Sept. 1, 1951; one son, T. Edward Spilman of Pasadena; two grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Visitation is from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Barranco & Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 9 a.m. tomorrow at Our Lady of the Chesapeake, 8325 Ventnor Road, Pasadena.
Interment will follow at Parkwood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flower to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401 and to the Tate Cancer Center, 305 Hospital Drive, Glen Burnie, MD 21061.
