Edna Linthicum, 86, a resident of Severna Park since 1948, died of a stroke Dec. 24 at home after a seven-year illness.

Born July 27, 1918, in Berkeley, Calif. and reared on the island of Samoa, Mrs. Linthicum was the daughter of a Coast Guard commander and lived in many areas, including North Carolina and St. Petersburg, Fla., where she graduated from high school.

Mrs. Linthicum graduated in 1939 from the former Women's College University of North Carolina, now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, with degrees in Latin and history and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society.

She retired in 1974 from the Anne Arundel County school system, having taught for 24 years at Glen Burnie High, Odenton Elementary and Oakwood Elementary schools. Additionally she taught homebound children and was a resource teacher for the learning impaired. She also was principal of Marley Glen and Sunny Glen-Sunnyside schools and was an assistant and specialist in special education at the Board of Education.

A member of the Council for Exceptional Children, she served as state president and on the national board of directors. She was also a member of Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church in Severna Park.

Among her interests were creating miniature gem trees, gourmet cooking, gardening and growing African violets.

Surviving are her husband, Robert C. Linthicum, whom she married Aug. 30, 1941; two sons, Charles H. Linthicum of Severna Park and Robert C. Linthicum Jr. of Fredericks-
burg, Va.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Cemetery, Ritchie Highway, in Glen Burnie.

The cause of death was incorrect in the obituary for Edna Linthicum, 86, of Severna Park, on Dec. 27 in The Capital.

Mrs. Linthicum died of natural causes Dec. 24 at her home. She had suffered a stroke seven years ago.
