Earl B. Walker, Jr. 87, a resident of Severna Park, died on June 20, 2016 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis.

He was born on July 2, 1928 in Wilmington, DE, son of Mary Griffith Grant. He graduated from Newark High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army. After a tour in Japan, he attended the University of Delaware. Upon graduation, he was commissioned a 2ND LT and was recalled to the Army.

During his more than 20 years of service, he was stationed at many U.S. posts, plus Germany, Greenland, Korea, and Puerto Rico. Assigned to Ft. Meade at the time of his retirement, he was Deputy Commander of the 35th Army Brigade. Included among his awards and decorations is the Legion of Merit.

After retirement, he worked for the State Highway Administration as a Right of Way Agent, retiring after 12 years.
In retirement he enjoyed fishing, gardening, and chair caning, He was an avid stamp collector.

A resident of Whitehurst for 47 years, an active member of the community, he served as Club President and particularly enjoyed playing Santa Claus for the kids in the community. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels for many years and also Partners in Care, and he was a member of Kiwanis Club of Severna Park.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Amanda Abbott Walker (her great grandfather, William M. Abbott founded the Capital), his children, Sandra and Tom Callahan of St. Petersburg, FL, Michael and Denise Walker of Pearl River, LA, Sharon and Rob South of Bear, DE, and Gloria Duddy and Pat Springer of Honolulu, HI; grandchildren, Joshua and Matt Wheeler and Sara and Jacob South; and great grandchildren, Logan, Grayson, and Liam Wheeler.

Family and friends may visit on Sunday, June 26, 2016 from 4-7 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, in Severna Park. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 27, 216 at 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow in MD Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
