Kerr, Ellen Audrey (nee Hogan) died peacefully at her home in Severna Park, Md, December 31, 2013.
Born February 28, 1925 in Baltimore, Md, Audrey was the daughter of the late Richard Grant and Frances Hogan. She was the beloved wife of the late G. Edward Kerr, Jr. and devoted mother of Judith Ellen Kropfelder of Stevensville, MD; Margaret Patricia (Sissy) Kerr and husband, Tim Grube, of Severna Park, MD; G. Edward Kerr, III and wife, Laura, of Cockeysville, MD; Casey Kevin Kerr and wife, Sandy, of Bel Air, MD; Sally Ann Thomsen and husband, Tim, of Friday Harbor, WA; Richard Patrick (Chuck) Kerr, of Stockton, MD. She was also the loving grandmother, known as Fannie, to Katie, Meghan, Nicole, Morgan, George (Eddie), Courtney, Mitch, Kellie, Paige, Jenny, Joshua, Patrick and Ryan as well as seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her siblings Richard Hogan and Nancy Fulkoski.
Audrey married Ed Kerr in 1948 where they resided in Catonsville, MD. In 1973 they moved to Stevensville, MD, where Audrey was an active member of the Kent Island American Legion Auxilliary. She continued her volunteerism and patriotic spirit with the American Legion, VFW and Elks Lodge when she and her husband Ed moved to Ocean City, MD in 1993.
Audrey's appreciation of education and lifelong love of learning was evident from degrees received from Catonsville Community College and Strayer Business College. Her studies extended from Law and Business to Art and Music. She also attended the University of Baltimore, WorWic Community College and was a member of the first graduating class of Ocean City's College in Municipal Government. While in Ocean City she received the Citizens Police Academy Certification.
Audrey was driven to be a professional woman. Her career advanced from the U.S. Customs Office to Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab and then to Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works, where she was the first female Right of Way Agent in the State of Maryland. During the height of her career, she also worked as a Real Estate agent and instructor. She eased into retirement working part-time for Queen Anne's County Department of Aging.
Family and friends may call on Sunday, January 5, 2014 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home in Severna Park. A funeral mass of Christian burial will be held at St. John the Evangelist, Roman Catholic Church of Severna Park on Monday, January 6, 2014 at 10:00am. Interment will follow at MD Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
