Dorothy McAleer, 85, originally from the District of Columbia, died peacefully in her sleep Tuesday morning on May 2, 2017. Born May 14, 1931 in Washington DC, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Susan Ross. She was the wife of the late Frank McAleer.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Katherine (Betsy) Lewis, Patience (Patsy) Wormcke, Susan Margaret Panek and her son Sean Patrick McAleer
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy McAleer Hellner (Joe); sons, Kevin McAleer (Jeanne), Frank (Tim) McAleer (Valentia), and Brian McAleer (Tracey); grand-sons, Ryan Martin and Sean McAleer; grand-daughters, Lauren Robinson and Erin and Siobhan McAleer; and several nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.
Dorothy was raised in Washington DC and attended Stetson University. She started her career at the Federal Trade Commission. Her main concern and passion in life was her family. She was devoted to being a mom, sister and wife. Everyone else came first to her. Dorothy was an ardent Redskin fan who loved her time at the beach. After the death of her husband, she moved to Lake Mary, Florida to enjoy the sand and surf for the next 25 years of her life.
Family and friends may visit on Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 2-4 & 6-8pm at the Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 5, 2017, at 11am in the funeral home chapel. Interment will take place at Parklawn Memorial Park in Rockville, MD.
