Dorothy R. "Dottie" Jump, 79, of Severna Park, died of cancer May 8 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie after a yearlong illness.

Born Sept. 2, 1926, on Hoopers Island in Dorchester County and reared in Baltimore, Mrs. Jump graduated in 1952 from the University of Maryland where she was a member of Phi Beta Phi sorority.

She also was a member of Chartwell Country Club and the Severna Park Republican Women's Club and was a past member of the Chartwell Garden Club.

Her interests included oil painting and playing bridge.

Surviving are her husband, G. Lawson Jump; one son, Robert L. Jump of Edgewater; one daughter, Karen L. Guest of Franklin, Mass.; three brothers, John and Edgar Ruark of Severna Park and Vernon Ruark of Fogelsville, Pa.; one sister, Joyce Deems of Churchville in Harford County; and five grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Funeral services will be at noon Thursday at Severna Park United Methodist Church, 731 Benfield Road. Burial is private.
