Dorothy Henrietta Gelston, 91, a resident of Millersville, passed away on October 27, 2015.
Raised in Cliffside Park, New Jersey, across the Hudson River from New York City on the Palisades, she lived with her parents, older brother and sister amidst lots of family in a house her grandfather and father built. She obtained her BA in a college in southern Virginia and began work for Lever Brothers Company on Park Avenue and 53rd Street in Manhattan. She continued there for the next 35-40 years with a two year stint in Los Angeles setting up personnel records for a new Lever Brothers factory. She continued on to become a Personnel Director until her retirement in 1980 and spent three years caring for her parents in the family home until their passing in 1983. At that time, she fell in love with Edward Stonehouse and relocated to Florida with him and spent 25 years living in Venice, Florida, both with him and after his passing. She adored Florida and felt this was a high point of her life. She and Edward traveled widely including a trip around the world and many cruises. She came to Maryland in 2012, staying initially with her nieces, then moving to Charlestown Retirement community, and finally in November of 2014, she came to Assisted Living Well where she resided until her final transition. She is survived by her sister, Marjorie Andras Joyce, her nieces Dorothy Jill Joyce, and Jerril Ann Joyce, her nephew John Andrew Joyce, his wife Linda Joyce, her great nieces Victoria and Kelly Boggiano and her great nephews Gregory and Jeffrey Joyce. Her passions were for her family, the beach and her beloved Florida. She is very much missed and we are all grateful she was in our family.
