Dorothy L Erdman, aged 84, died April 9, 2013, after a long illness.
Born in Curtis Bay in Baltimore on May 19, 1928, she was the daughter of Avery and Mabel Gordy.
She graduated from Southern High School where she studied business and went on to become a secretary and later a medical office manager.
But she will best be remembered as the loving and devoted wife of Charles T. Erdman, Jr. They had been married for almost 60 years prior to his death in 2008.
Together they raised three children, Deborah L. Vaught of Tampa, FL, Michael R. Erdman of Wasilla, AK, and Patti A. DeJacma of Centreville, MD.
They were the proud Nana and Papa to seven grandchildren: Stephanie Hempstead Collier, Heather Hempstead, Joshua Hempstead, Stephen Erdman, Leslie Erdman Cunningham, Dennis M. DeJacma, and Lara E.
DeJacma.
She was excited to welcome her first great-grandchild, Jillian.
She loved to play bingo and cards with all of her friends at St. Jane Frances and The Democratic Club. She enjoyed gardening, reading the latest novels, talking politics, and going to the beach every year with the girls.
Dorothy is survived not only by her children and grandchildren, but by her two sisters Beverly Beall and Patricia All. She was pre-deceased by her sister and best friend, Lillian White, and by her brother Melvin Gordy.
She was known as Aunt Dot to her many nieces and nephews, and Miss Dot
to her extraordinary caretakers who became her close friends,Tina,
Sharon, Samantha, Robin, and Brittney.
She will be missed.
She will be laid to rest with her husband at the Maryland Veteran's Cemetary. Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake.
