Dorothy Downing (nee Almeter), 85, a 35 year resident of Severna Park, MD, died on July 27, 2009 at her home due to complications from Alzheimer's.

She was born on July 01, 1924 in Sheldon, NY, where she was raised.

Mrs. Downing retired as an accountant from Port Annapolis Marina in Annapolis, MD after 20 years.

She volunteered at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Severna Park.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, James Downing of Severna Park and children, Mark Downing of Portland OR, Kevin Downing of Portland, OR, Michael Downing of Severna Park, MD, Michele Downing of Baltimore, MD, Shawn Downing of Baltimore, MD and Patrick Downing of Bangkok, Thailand; brother, Richard Almeter of Sheldon, NY; sister, Mildred Schwab of Batavia, NY; brother, Nelson Almeter of Bemus Point, NY, brother, Gerald Almeter of Elma, NY: sister ,Sharon Daniels of Fairport, NY; sister Sandra Roemer of East Aurora, NY; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit on Thursday, July 30 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Gov. Ritchie Highway in Severna Park.
A Wake Service will be at the funeral home on Thursday, at 3:00 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, July 31 at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146.
Interment will be private.
