Donald E.
Wilson
May 4, 1947 – March 27, 2026
Donald Edward Wilson, 78, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 27, 2026, in Germantown, Maryland. Known affectionately as “Don,” “Barney,” and “Captain,” Don was born on May 4, 1947, in Baltimore, Maryland. Raised in the Elvaton community of Millersville, he attended Severna Park High School and earned an Associate in Arts from Catonsville Community College.
In 1967, Don proudly joined the Baltimore City Fire Department, beginning a distinguished career marked by dedication, leadership, and service. His commitment to his fellow firefighters and to the community he served carried him to the rank of Captain. He was also a member of the IAFF local 964, where he held several leadership roles and advocated for the wellbeing of his colleagues. At the time of his retirement, he was serving as the Captain of Engine 30.
Don was a man of unmistakable charm and quick wit, known for his impeccable comedic timing and a lifelong love of practical jokes. After retiring, he became a beloved regular at local trivia events, where he was as quick with an answer as he was with a story. A passionate Baltimore Ravens fan and an enthusiast of bluegrass music, he found joy in the simple pleasures that brought people together. He was also a longtime member of the Stoney Creek Fishing and Hunting Club and the Cracker Jacks Fireworks Club. His true craftsmanship shone through in his gunsmithing business, Donald’s Doubles, where he specialized in the meticulous restoration of double-barrel shotguns. His deep respect for the craft earned him admiration from collectors and sportsmen alike.
He is survived by his daughters, Donna Murphy, Kelly Wilson, and Shannon Tracy; and his grandchildren, Jessica, Samuel, Desiree, Paige, Adele, Sebastian, and Roger. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Stella Dabrodey Wilson, and his parents, Charles and Catherine Virginia Reusing Wilson.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Tribute at Black Hill, Capital City Nurses, and Heartland Hospice for the tender care provided to Don in his final days.
