Donald J. Lyons, 85, of the Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville, formerly of Severna Park, passed away on July 5th, 2015 of congestive heart failure.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Diane (Lewns), his sons, Donald F. Lyons (Eva), Christopher J. Lyons (Colleen) and Andrew J. Lyons and his six grandchildren, Peter, Rose, Joseph, Conor, Brigid and Cate. Also surviving are his sisters, Doris Reilly of Southbury, CT, and Louise Cronan of Morehead City, NC. He was predeceased by his brother, John L. Lyons.
Don was born in Bridgeport, CT, on May 17, 1930, son of the late John L. Lyons Sr and Gertrude VanBuskirk Lyons, attended Roger Ludlowe High School in Fairfield and attended the University of Bridgeport. He served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1954. This assignment brought him to work at the National Security Agency. He retired in 1988. He then worked for Universal Microbiology Lab – testing water and well systems. During his 40 years in the Whitehurst Community in Severna Park, Don served as president of the Whitehurst Residents Association and President of the Severna Park Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Colonial Coin Club of Annapolis. For many years he participated in the Russian Conversation class at AACC.
Friends may visit at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, on Tuesday July 14th 2-4 and 6-8pm and a memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10am. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
