Donald Hoffman
Donald Lorenz Hoffman Sr., 66, a resident of the Washington, D.C., and Annapolis area for 56 years, died of cancer Dec. 11 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Born May 4, 1940, in Washington, D.C., Mr. Hoffman graduated from McLean High School in Fairfax County, Va.
He was an accomplished executive, owner and designer in the shoe industry. He started his career as a salesman at the Hahn's shoe store in Falls Church, Va., and was promoted through the ranks to vice president of merchandising for the company.
In 1982 he was promoted to president of Bandolino Shoes in New York City and relocated to Stamford, Conn. Subsequently, he opened a Pappagallo footwear and clothing retail store which he operated for seven years in the Stamford Town Center before returning to Annapolis.
He enjoyed playing golf and was an accomplished saxophonist. He also was a dedicated Washington Redskins and New York Yankee fan.
His marriages to Carol Anderson Hoffman and Jayne G. Evans ended in divorce.
Surviving are five children, Robert Hoffman III of Grasonville, Dr. Mary Hoffman of Chicago, Ill., Ralph Hoffman of Basking Ridge, N.J., and Donald Hoffman Jr. and Tricia Stein, both of Annapolis; one sister, Catherine Hoffman of Norwalk, Conn.; and 11 grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at Cape St. Claire United Methodist Church, 855 Chestnut Tree Drive.
