IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donald Francis
Duffy
March 5, 1936 – November 8, 2022
Donald Francis Duffy of Severna Park, MD, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2022, surrounded by family. He was born to William and Madeline Duffy in Brooklyn, NY, on March 5, 1936. Don was raised in Brooklyn before moving to Long Island, where at 17 years old he met the love of his life, Joan Siebel, then 16. After graduating in 1957 with a BA degree from Georgetown University, Don and Joan married. Don served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force working for the Strategic Air Command in Plattsburgh New York. He later became a Special Agent for the FBI and worked that position until 1964, when he moved his family to Maryland and began working for Curtis Bay Towing Company in Baltimore.
Don and Joan raised their seven children in Severna Park before moving to Issaquah, Washington in 1978. In the Pacific Northwest he worked for the Seattle based Foss Maritime Corporation as the V.P. of Sales, Ocean Transportation. Don also served from 1992-1993 as Chairman of the Board for the American Waterways Operators. After retiring in 1998 Don and Joan returned to the east coast, living on the Severn River in Severna Park where he enjoyed rowing his hand-built "Das Boot" and spending time with family and friends.
Don was a man best known for the family he and his loving wife of 65 years, created. His children are a testament to a love that knows no bounds: Lauren Anne (Ron) Staines of Queenstown, MD, Kerry (Jim) Doyle of Severna Park, MD, Mark (Andrea) Duffy of Chelan WA, Paul (Catherine) Duffy of Edmonds, WA, Regina (Dave) Hunsaker of Bothell, WA, Bill (Jill) Duffy of Bothell, WA, and Steve (Carrie) Duffy of Annapolis, MD; as well as 26 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Don was a man that lived his faith, sacrificed for his family, welcomed hard work, and faced hardship and challenges with unwavering courage. He loved intensely and with a quick humor, never wasted a good "Donism". Don imprinted on his family, friends and colleagues precious memories that will be forever cherished. He cared for us and gave of himself constantly wherever he saw the need. Although we will feel the ache of his absence, our grief is assuaged by the knowledge that he is with our loving God.
