Dennis Carrigan Thrower, husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and colleague, passed away on October 31, 2021 at the age of 75 years old. Dennis was born on June 21, 1946 to Elvin and Alice Thrower. The youngest of five siblings, he grew up with his family in Washington DC. Eventually moving to Silver Spring Maryland, he graduated from Springbrook High School (class of '64) and then received his Associates Degree in Education at Montgomery college in 1967. He then went on to further his degree in education by receiving a Bachelor's of Science in Education at the University of Maryland (class of '69) and a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction at Bowie State University in 1974.

Dennis started his career as an elementary school Physical Education teacher in Prince George's County, MD, where he served for the next 30 years. Throughout his life, students would remember him as one of their favorites, always excited to find and catch up with Mr. Thrower! A part-time job at The Capital Centre, in Largo, MD, would develop into a near 48-year career, to today's iteration at Capital One Arena in Washington, DC. From his initial days as an usher, Dennis devoted himself to his work, eventually earning a promotion to Event Box Office Manager, a position he held for the majority of his career. His employees describe him as  loyal, compassionate, funny and charming.

Dennis met the love of his life, Anne, in 1961 at the Northwest Park Apartments in Silver Spring, Maryland. High School sweethearts that married in 1969, they recently celebrated their 52 nd anniversary together. They raised two children, David and Kimberly. Dennis' most precious gift arrived in 2003, his granddaughter Kendall Miller. He was an instant "Poppy," and they would spend the next 18 years as best friends. There is nothing that he would not do for her and their bond will be forever.

Family and friends were most important in Dennis' life. A passion for golf, movies, and music  -especially Elvis - filled his days. Maryland Basketball and card games with his buddies filled his evenings. Nights were filled with dreams of how to spend that big lottery payout that he so yearned to win.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, Elvin and Alice Thrower; his two sisters, Nancy Wheeler and Polly Jankowski; and his brother, William Thrower. He is survived by his wife Anne; son David Thrower and his wife Shannon; daughter Kimberly Christensen and her husband Derek; granddaughter Kendall Miller; sister Mary Jo Forsythe; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
