Dennis Wayne Butler, known to many as the "Mayor of Berrywood," passed away on August 14, 2021 at the University of Maryland Medical Center. He was born on November 21, 1948 to Henry and Dorothy Butler in Washington, D.C. He was raised in Temple Hills, MD and attended Crossland High School before earning his Bachelors at Bowie State University. Before he became a longtime resident of Severna Park, Dennis has resided in  Acton, Massachusetts, Lawrenceville, GA, and Irvine, CA. Before his retirement as a Customer Business Manager with Kraft Foods, he was in Sales with Oscar Mayer. Only fitting, he later became a Broker for Pastore Sons of Italy post Retirement. In addition, he was Commodore of the Berrywood Yacht Club and enjoyed boating on the "Naval Retentive". He was always sure to keep fingerprints off of his windows, wear white sole shoes only on the boat, and known to keep his pantry super organized. He also enjoyed landscaping his beautiful home & volleyball court that he, with the help of family & the community, built to bring people together through their shared love for volleyball. In addition to the volleyball court, he was proud of the cool bar he had built and would often show it to people and offer them a cold beer or maybe little Jim Beam. Over the years he played basketball, tennis, snow & water skied, golfed with work buddies, and partook in quite a few Atlanta Marathons. Dennis especially loved to spend time with his friends and family, dogs Gypsy & Mercedes, and doting on his grandchildren. "Nia gives Pappy Nennis kisses."

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Jason Michael Butler, his brother-in-law William Allen, and brother-in-law Gary Hypes. Dennis is survived by Lauren's mother Shirley Ann McFerron of Green Valley, AZ, his daughter, Lauren Ann Butler of Crofton; fiancé, Debra Lynne Eckard; and her daughter and sons which he treated as his own, Elliott Eckard, Steph Eckard, Joshua Maurer, Liz Maurer, and Justin Riordan, all of York, PA; siblings, Rev. Dr. Henry Butler (Judy) of Damascus, MD, Patricia Allen of Prince Frederick, MD, Gail Schulz (Jack) of Odenton, MD, Hollis Hypes of Annapolis, MD, Karen Howard (Tad) of North Bethesda, MD, D. Michele DeVore (Jon) of Edgewater, MD, Brenda Young (Tim) of Mechanicsville, MD, and Troy Butler (Margaret) of Berlin, MD; his soon to be grandchildren Mia and Willow, 31 nieces and nephews.
