Deane Clyde Magalis, 61, a resident of Catonsville for 15 years, died of suddenly heart failure March 10.
The son of Joan Marie Mann of Annapolis and the late Deane Clyde Magalis, Mr. Magalis was born Oct. 14, 1943, in Bournemouth, England, and reared in the United States.
Mr. Magalis served in both the Air Force and in the Army as a warrant officer in Vietnam and Germany and with a traveling exhibit for Army recruitment before retiring after 20 years.
Subsequently he worked for Vending Services, Inc. in Jessup.
Musically talented, he was active as a sailing instructor with the Downtown Sailing Center in Baltimore and with the 187th Assault Helicopter Group.
In 1982 he married Anastasia Kolonowski Magalis, who died Sept. 8, 2001.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his sister, Diane Marie Shickman of Arnold; and stepfather, retired Army Col. Julius W. Mann of Annapolis.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park. Funeral services and burial will be at a later date.
