IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David A.
Wilkinson
November 15, 1946 – April 1, 2017
David Wilkinson, 70, died on April 1, 2017, of cardiac arrest. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Lynda "Latifa" Wilkinson, of Severna Park.
David showed an early interest in drawing and painting, and his area of interest was Fine Arts and Philosophy, first at the Hartford Art School and then the University of Connecticut. His college degree was interrupted when he joined the army, where his aptitude for languages was discovered. Intensive study of Arabic led to assignments in Africa and the Middle East, initially as an analyst. When he transferred to Army Special Operations later on, his duties took on a more active nature. His last military deployment was as a Tier-1 operator, deployed with and at the request of the Commander of Seal Team 6.
After 18 years in the army, David pursued a civilian career with the National Security Agency, where he distinguished himself as a gifted intelligence analyst with sharp intuition. He distinguished himself as a gifted intelligence analyst with sharp intuition. His decorations from his military and civilian service include 4 Meritorious Service Medals, 5 Intelligence Community Awards, 3 Unit Citations, a Joint Meritorious Service Award, and, he usually put it, "other usual doodads."
Following his service to his country, David retired and returned to his first love: art. He rediscovered his passion for sculpture, especially stone and metal. His work has been featured in local shows and, through the wonders of digital technology, internationally.
David Wilkinson had many interests. He loved gardening and cooking. He was a strong supporter for animal rights, both domestic and wild. His daily walks made him a familiar fixture in his neighborhood, and he was always ready to stop and chat. He was an avid kayaker as well.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no viewing or funeral. A memorial service is being planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one of these organizations: http://vetpaw.org/, a group of U.S. Veterans who are working to stop animal poaching in Africa, or, locally, Rude Ranch, which is not only an animal rescue organization but has also taken concrete steps to help cut back on the number of animals needing homes, through its Spay and Neuter clinic. http://www.ruderanch.org/
