IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daniel
Sider
October 15, 1923 – December 10, 2017
Daniel Sider, 94, a resident of Glen Burnie, passed away on December 10, 2017 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis.
Born October 15, 1923 to Oscar and Ethel Sider in Lebanon Hospital, Bronx, New York. Graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School and enlisted in the Navy shortly after the Pearl Harbor attack. He served in the Navy on the USS Portland during World War II. While in the Navy he was in the Administration & Repair Unit in Hawaii and Alameda, CA. He played baseball for the Navy during the war, as well. He played with and against the likes of Dom DiMaggio, Ted Williams and many other professionals who were serving in the military. Upon his honorable discharge he married his sweetheart Lily Tabachnick, who pre-deceased him in 1999. He played baseball briefly in the Brooklyn Dodger organization, but in his words "I was tired of taking orders, after years in the Navy" and instead chose to drive a lumber truck. While driving, he was picked up by the 'Golden Gloves' and the 'King Kole' boys of the New York Negro Baseball League. In 1958, he relocated to Glen Burnie, Maryland to become the proprietor of 'Danny's Tavern' in Pasadena, Maryland until his retirement in 2008. During his time as a tavern owner he sponsored numerous men's, women's, Co-Ed, and senior softball teams. Some of which went on to win National titles. Danny was a founding father of Pasadena VFW Post 2462, and was Post Commander from 1969-1973. He is survived by his sons Eric, Bruce (Karen), & Scott; Grandchildren Steven, Justin (Kelly), Grady & Amanda; and Great Grandchildren Emily & Jacob. A lifelong Yankee fan he continued to keep up on all moves made by his beloved Yankees, to the dismay of some of his family members. He had a love for life and was a kind loving human being. He told many stories of his past, playing baseball against Artie Donovan, and going to school with 'Sugar' Ray Robinson and recalling specific dates that would amaze listeners. He was a strong man with a heart of gold, and will be remembered forever dearly.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2017 from 5-8 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, in Severna Park. Private interment.
In lieu of flowers donations in his name may be made to the DAV-Disabled American Veterans P.O. Box 14301 Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
