Daniel Phillip Shriner, 30, a five-year resident of Columbia and Jessup and formerly a 25-year resident of Annapolis, died suddenly Dec. 31 at Howard General Hospital of a coronary. He was born and raised in Annapolis.

He graduated from Broadneck High School in 1997. He received his bachelor's degree from University of Maryland, College Park in 2002. He was enrolled in the MBA program at Loyola with two semesters remaining.

He was in the Marine Corps Reserve from 1997 to 2003, LAV Crewman 0313. He served with Distinction in "Operation Iraqi Freedom" in 2003 when his unit, Bravo Company, 4th LAR was activated and deployed to Kuwait and Iraq. He was Honorably discharged with rank of Sgt. and his decorations include the Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon as well as five additional Medals of Distinction. Dan also was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was an avid Ravens fan, enjoyed playing music and playing sports with his wife as members of the Baltimore Sports and Social Club. He brewed beer and was an enthusiastic gamer. He was also a DELT Fraternity Brother. Dan and his wife Tiffin always enjoyed and appreciated the time spent with their many friends and family.

Survivors include his devoted, beloved wife, Tiffin A. Shriner (Lilly) of Jessup; his parents, Ron and Brenda Shriner of Arnold; one brother, David J. Shriner (wife Danielle) of Belair; two sisters, Laura M. Shriner of Arnold and Joanne M. Shriner of Frankford, Del.; his grandparents, George and Shirley Shriner of Lewes, Del. Jim and Giselda Conti of Ocala, Fl.; aunts and uncles; many nieces, nephews and cousins; mother-in-law, Tricia L. Ourand and her husband Chris Ourand; father-in-law, James R. Lilly and his wife Judy Lilly; and sister-in-law, Jaime Askew and her husband Ryan Askew.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5 at Barranco and Sons, Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6 at St. Andrew By The Bay, 701 College Parkway in Annapolis. Interment in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to any humane society chapter of choice.
