IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daniel P.
Dunlap
February 24, 1927 – May 5, 2022
In loving memory of Daniel Price Dunlap, who passed away on May 5, 2022. He was the devoted husband of Alice Lorscheider Dunlap and loving father. He had a wonderful life of 95 years and passed away peacefully and at home in Millersville, Maryland, with family.
Dan was born in 1927 to John and Freida Dunlap in Rochester, NY. He was the third of six children, five boys (John, Bob, Dan, Jim and Ray) and one girl (Wilma). He had many great stories about growing up in the Dunlap family. The Dunlaps were a musical family and their band, The Fabulous Dunlaps, were and are well known in the Rochester area. Dan played the acoustic bass and his brothers played piano, sax, trumpet and sang.
At the age of 17 he enlisted in the U.S Navy and served on a troop transport ship that evacuated U.S. military personnel from Japan back to the USA. He was proud of his service and had very entertaining stories of his time in the Navy.
Dan received an Honorable Discharge in 1946 and enrolled in Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. He loved his time at Kenyon and supported the university for many years. He played starting offense and defense on the Kenyon football team and was named a Small College All- American. He also ran track, specializing in the quarter mile. Dan graduated with a B.A. in Economics and always enjoyed discussing political and economic current events. In addition, he was a proud member of Phi Kappa Sigma.
After graduating from Kenyon, he moved back to Rochester and started his career in industrial sales. He also met and married the love of his life, Alice Dunlap, in 1954, and they recently celebrated their 68 th wedding anniversary. Dan and Alice had 4 children and created a loving and strong family.
Dan started his career in Rochester and subsequently moved to Elmira, NY, Louisville, KY, and Flint, MI, where the family lived for 10 years. In 1971, Dan and Alice moved to Severna Park, MD. Their friendly and fun nature won close and lifelong friends wherever they went. He eventually became a salesman for Anchor Fence, which he greatly enjoyed, and worked there until he retired.
Dan's personality is impossible to describe in print. He was warm and funny and found something positive in everyone he met, one of his favorite sayings was "You can take a page out of his/her book". When he walked into a room it would brighten up and people would gravitate to him. He was a master story teller with a great sense of humor. Dan had a way of connecting with people that was truly unique. He especially loved being with his family, creating many wonderful memories over the years.
Dan is survived by his wife Alice Dunlap, children Dan Dunlap, Jr. (Angela), Kris Prentice (Warren), Kate Krauss (Bob) and Andy Dunlap; grandchildren Warren Prentice, Jennifer Dodson (Jimmy), Madeline Dunlap, Emily Dunlap, Hannah Krauss and Erin Krauss; great grandchildren Addison Dodson and James Dodson as well as many adoring nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
In his final days, Dan and his family found great comfort and peace thanks to the Hospice of the Chesapeake. The entire family expresses their thanks and deep appreciation to this caring organization and asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake https://www.hospicechesapeake.org/giving/donate-now/ A celebration of life will be held at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A., 495 Governor Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146 on Saturday, May 21 from 3 to 5 pm.
