Dale Merrill Paul, 73, a resident of Severna Park, died on February 28, 2012 at Fairfield Nursing & Rehab Center in Crownsville, MD, due to complications from Alzheimer's Disease, after a 13+ year illness.

He was born on March 13, 1938 in Bloomsburg, PA, and was raised in Bloomsburg then in Berwick, PA., graduating from Berwick High School in 1956. Also, he attended Penn State University. In addition to Bloomsburg and Berwick, Dale lived at residences in State College, PA. , Lewistown, PA, and Annapolis before moving to Severna Park, where he has lived the past 27 years.

After graduating from Berwick High School in 1956, Dale served four years in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged as a first class petty officer in 1960. In 1960, he began his career in the broadcasting industry from 1960-1974. Dale was a radio personality at various radio stations in Northeastern, PA and later, in central PA. While working at WRSC in State College, PA, the home of Penn State University, Dale had the pleasure of interviewing Joe Paterno, the football coach at P.S.U. through a "live feed" to the television sports show "Wide World of Sports". In 1974, Dale and his family moved to Annapolis, Maryland, where he accepted the position of sales manager at radio station WYRE. He remained there until 1982 when he accepted the "out of the blue" offer to become the first sales manager of the Maryland Pennysaver, a small, but rapidly growing publication. He worked at the Pennysaver until his retirement in 2000. While there, he became known as "Pennysaver Guy" and enjoyed being the emcee of the company's Christmas parties, etc.

Dale served in the U.S. Navy from 1956-1960. He served on 2 destroyers and was involved in crises in Laos and Formosa. As a younger man, Dale was active in the Jaycees and the March of Dimes Organization in Pennsylvania. He played basketball when he was young. He loved all kinds of music, all sports, and was an avid fan of Penn State Football and Nascar Racing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Paul and Ethel (Gabriel) Paul.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Connie Jane (Dietterick) Paul of Severna Park; one daughter, Laurie Anne (Paul) Taylor of Millersville; and three grandchildren, Andrew, David, and Sarah.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 13, 2012 at 12:00 noon at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, 611 Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd, Severna Park, MD 21146. Interment will take place in the Columbarium at Woods memorial Presbyterian Church.
