In Loving Memory of Curtis “Bud” Conway.
Curtis “Bud” Conway was an extraordinary man whose kindness, thoughtfulness, and genuine friendship touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He was the kind of person who never met a stranger and was always ready to share a laugh or offer a kind word. No one ever had a bad word to say about Curtis, a testament to the remarkable person he was and the lasting impression he left on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Born in Durham, North Carolina, Curtis was raised in Baltimore, Maryland, and spent the last 40 years of his life in Millersville, Maryland, where he built a life filled with love, family, and lasting friendships.
Curtis proudly served his country in the United States Army, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. Following his military service, he worked for the B&O Railroad for 31 years. After retiring from the railroad, he continued working part-time at Fort Meade Golf Course and Crofton Country Club, allowing him to stay active while enjoying his love of golf and connecting with others.
At the center of Curtis's life was the love of his life, Dottie Conway (née McGarrity), with whom he shared 58 wonderful years of marriage. Their love story began long before high school. The two lived down the street from one another, and before they ever started dating, Curtis was Dottie's paperboy. Her father would often complain that Curtis left the wires from the newspapers scattered on his grass! Little did he know that the young paperboy would one day become his daughter's husband. Curtis and Dottie began dating in high school, but went their separate ways for a time before Curtis left for the Army. Some connections, however, are simply meant to last. When Curtis returned home from his service, Dottie was the first person he called from the airport. That call marked the beginning of a love that would last a lifetime. Together, they shared 58 years of marriage, countless memories, and a bond that stood the test of time.
Curtis was also a devoted and loving son whose care for his mother was extraordinary. He made it a point to spend every Sunday morning with her over breakfast, a special tradition that reflected the depth of his love and the importance he placed on family.
Some of Curtis's happiest times were spent at their place in Ocean City, Maryland, where he loved being on the beach and enjoying the simple pleasures of life. He also enjoyed golf, trips to Las Vegas, and, most importantly, spending time with family and friends. An avid walker, Curtis met up with a group of friends at the Annapolis Mall for years, walking at least four times a week for an hour and 20 minutes each time. These regular gatherings were about more than exercise; they were an opportunity to share conversation, laughter, and friendship with people who meant so much to him.
Curtis's warmth, generosity, and easygoing nature made him a friend to all. He had a special way of making people feel welcome, and his friendships were an important part of his life. Whether spending time with loved ones, enjoying the beach in Ocean City, playing golf, or meeting friends for their regular walks, Curtis found happiness in being with people. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and joy, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Curtis is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Dottie Conway; his brother, Clarence “Butch” Conway (Sherry); his sister, Judy Peterson; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Shirley and Robert Mulherin; and many nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bessie and Henry Conway; his sisters, Louis Makarovich, Glenda Lowery, and Carol Gauniel; and his beloved dog, Citris.
Curtis leaves behind a legacy of kindness, loyalty, love, and friendship. He will be remembered for his generous heart, his devotion to family, his enduring love for Dottie, and the countless friendships he nurtured throughout his life. He was truly one of a kind, and the world was a better place because he was in it. He will be loved and missed always.
A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday October 25, 2026 from 1:00pm-3:00pm with family remembrance time staring at 2:30pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A. 495 Ritchie Hwy Severna Park, MD 21146.
