Cosmo (Cos) Rappoccio, age 61, of Severna Park, died on December 21, 2017 of kidney cancer after a long illness.
Mr. Rappoccio, a native of Port Chester, NY, moved to Maryland in 1978 to work as an electrical engineer at Westinghouse after graduating from Clarkson University. He retired in 2016 after a successful 38 year career as an engineer, Systems Engineering Team Lead, and functional manager. He worked primarily in the development of ECM, Missile Warning, and Radar Systems. He received numerous engineering awards for the design, development and testing of such systems from both Westinghouse and later Northrop Grumman.
His hobbies included bicycling touring, astronomy and genealogy. An avid genealogist, he spent over 30 years researching his family history and those of others, compiling over a dozen family history books and publishing two articles in national magazines.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary P. Hinz, son David and his wife Keeley of Portland OR, and a daughter Rachel, also his brother Anthony Rappoccio and his wife Maria of Port Chester, and a sister Anne Marie Ciccone and her husband John of Ocala Florida; his mother Anna Rappoccio of West Palm Beach; his mother-in-law Mary Hinz of Linthicum, and brother-in-law Robert (Becky) Hinz of Gaithersburg, as well as 1 nephew and 3 nieces.
A gathering of family and friends will occur at Thursday December 28, 2017 from 4 to 7:00pm in the Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home 495 Ritchie Hwy. Severna Park, MD 21146.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Johns Hopkins Hospital, Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center.
