Johnson, Constance (Connie) C., (nee Briggs) a 54 year resident of Severna Park, died peacefully on February 29, 2012 at age 91. Connie was born January 22, 1921, in Warwick, RI, daughter of the late Elizabeth Robinson and Clarence Lester Briggs. She attended Rhode Island State, where she was a Chi Omega.

Connie owned and operated a yarn shop, the Black Eyed Susan in West Annapolis. She was an active member of the Panhellenic, often modeling in their fashion shows. Connie received several citations for her many years of volunteering. She taught knitting at the YWCA for forty years, was active in Partners in Care, was one of the founders of At Home Chesapeake, and served on county wide committees on aging. She also taught knitting at Senior Centers in the county. Her commitment to advancing health care treatment was demonstrated by her long-term participation in the National Women's Health Study, and her willingness to undergo an experimental treatment for macular degeneration. Connie, known as Gammy by her family and many friends was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and dining, knitting, dark chocolate wintergreens, ice cream, and most of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She delighted in all her extended family's children, knitting dozens of personalized Christmas stockings at the birth of each one.

Connie was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, David R. Johnson, in 1987. She is survived by her children, Jane E. Stanek, of Millersville, MD, Anton B. Johnson and his wife, Jeanann, of Brewster, MA, and D. Randolph Johnson, and his wife, Terry Berg, of Edgewater, MD; six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146 on Sunday, March 4, 2012 from 2 to 6 pm. Services will be at St. Martin's in the Field Episcopal Church, 375 Benfield Road, Severna Park, MD on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 10:00 am. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery, 1911 Forest Drive, Annapolis, MD 21404 on Tuesday, March 6 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Partners in Care at www.partnersincare.org, or the YWCA Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, annapolisywca.org.
