Colleen Gordon Maier passed away peacefully on January 15, 2023.

Colleen was born to Harry and Violet Gordon in Auckland, New Zealand on Sept 16, 1927. The youngest of three children, Colleen was never content to spend her life on a South Pacific Island. Always a dreamer with an adventurous spirit, Colleen received her teaching degree from the University in Christchurch and packed her bags for England to teach the deaf. In London she was an avid theatre goer and was a witness to Queen Elizabeth's coronation.

Colleen traveled throughout Europe, boarding cargo ships as an inexpensive way to see the world. A chance encounter on one such trip would be life changing. Sailing to the United States to visit her sister, she met a ship's officer, George Maier. They fell in love and, after a 2-year courtship across the seas, married in London and eventual settled to the United States.

The next six and half years blessed them with four children: George, Beth, Jane and Billy. Ever the devoted mother, Colleen made each child feel special.

Later in life, Colleen volunteered at the House of Ruth in Baltimore and Catholic foster homes for sexually abused children.

One of her great joys in life was being a grandmother of 8.

Colleen is survived by her sister, Pearl Radick; her daughters Beth (Ron) Reis and Jane (John) Holt; her daughter-in-law Patricia Vernon Maier; her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Alexandra, and Caroline Maier; Catherine Maier Wolcott; Emily and Jack Holt; and Billy and Jake Reis. She is predeceased by her brother, Harry Gordon; her beloved husband, George Maier; and her sons, George and William Maier.

Knowing Colleen was to know her compassion, gentility and grace. Her light in the world will be sorely missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Saturday January 21, 2023 at 10:00am at The Baltimore Basilica Catholic Church 409 Catherdral Street Baltimore, MD 21202. Interment at New Cathedral Cemetery 4300 Old Fredrick Rd Baltimore, MD 21229.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the House of Ruth in Baltimore.
