Dr. Walter Leo Scheetz passed away on the 24th of September with his family by his side at Anne Arundel Medical Center from cardiac complications. Walter was 84 years of age born on the 10th of August 1932 in Philadelphia to the late Walter and Anna Wagner Scheetz. Walter is survived by his loving and devoted wife Maureen of 30 years. Together they have 5 children. Son, Ed Scheetz of New York; Daughters, Mary Zehnle and husband, Tom of Gaithersburg; Karen Kennedy and husband, Mike; Kelly Polek-Fargher and husband, Jamie; Terri Orofino, all of Arnold. Walter had 13 grandchildren; Alex, Tori, Maddie, Nick, Ryan, Jimmy, Brendan, Nicky, Joey, Isabella, Bobby, Emma and Kasey. He is also survived by his brother, Ed Scheetz of Florida as well as a large extended family. Walter worked as a doctor and dedicated his life to helping and serving others. Walter received his undergraduate degree from Penn State University and continued on to medical school at Temple University. Walter had a distinguished career as a surgeon in the army. Retired after 28 years, as a Colonel, he continued on in medicine as the Chief of the North Arundel Emergency Department in Maryland. Walter cherished his life with Maureen and loved spending time with his family while spoiling and singing to his dog Molly. Pop-Pop alongside Nana was always proudly cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events. He enjoyed a full adventurous life, traveling to beautiful places with his family where he liked to ski, play golf, snorkel and scuba dive. He also enjoyed the comforts of home, playing his piano, reading a good book or just watching football on the big screen with his family. Walter loved living at the beach. Over the past 30 years, Walter and Maureen have shared time living in Maui, HI and Naples, Fl. He resided in Bethany Beach, DE for 23 years where he attended St. Anne's Catholic Church. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday October 2, 2016 from 4-7 pm at the Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146. On Monday October 3, 2016 at 10:00 am a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John's Catholic Church 689 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 11:00am.
