Col. Stuart Alan Miller, U.S. Army (Retired), a 49-year resident of Severna Park, MD died peacefully at the age of 87 on Saturday April 26, 2025, at Sunrise Assisted Living, Severna Park, MD.
Stuart Alan was born on September 21, 1937, in Dixon, Illinois to Warren and Margaret (Hutt) Miller. He graduated from Madison West High School in 1955 and the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1959 with a Bachelors in Economics and Army ROTC.
He was united in marriage to Marion Noreen "Mike" (Ferguson) on April 14, 1965, in Ft. Benning, GA., while he was stationed there in the United States Army.
Ret. Col. Stuart Miller was a pilot for the US Army and two-tour Vietnam War Veteran. He received several distinguished honors including: the Distinguished Flying Cross (one of the highest honors as a pilot), Bronze Star medal, Army Commendation Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Medal (4th Award), Meritorious Unit Commendation, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm.
His twenty-two-year Army career took him to many posts including: Ft. Benning, GA, Ft. Leavenworth, KS., Wertheim and Heidleberg, Germany. He ultimately retired after his Army career brought him to Ft. George Meade, MD where he was in charge of recruitment. Stuart briefly worked as a project manager for Hargrove, Inc. responsible for National Tree Lighting in Washington D.C. Stuart also worked for New York Life Insurance and AES Bryant as a warehouse manager. Stuart joined the REHABers and did maintenance work at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church in Severna Park. He enjoyed meeting up with his fellow Army pilot buddies and also enjoyed cheering on his Wisconsin Badgers, Green Bay Packers, Baltimore Orioles, Baltimore Ravens and Nascar racing. Stuart enjoyed fishing with his cousins in Canada and later with his grandsons. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling the world with his wife, Marion Miller.
Stuart is survived by his two daughters: Mary Beth (Chris) Dearing of Severna Park, MD. and Carrie (James) Hilliard of Millersville, MD; five grandchildren: Benjamin Dearing, Jake Hilliard, Jackson "Jack" Dearing, Alexandra "Lexi" Hilliard and Allyson "Ally" Dearing. He is further survived by his brother, Rev. John M. (Lois) Miller of Hilton Head, S.C. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Miller (Ruth) and brother Robert "Bob" Miller (Marilyn).
Full military honors and interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery where Stuart and his wife, Marion will both be buried.
