Edward P. Wilson, Jr., also affectionately known as "Coach" or "Coach Baby" to friends and family, a longtime resident of Severna Park, MD, died at age 92 after a brief illness on January 8, 2015 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis.

Coach Wilson was born on April 18, 1922 in Annapolis, MD, and raised in Beloit, Wisconsin.  Past residences included; Arlington, VA, Bainbridge, MD, Naples, Italy, Norfolk, VA and Orlando Florida.

A member of the United States Naval Academy Class of 1945, Coach Wilson graduated early to serve in World War II.  He served in the Pacific Theatre and his battles included the Assault on Okinawa.  He also served during the Korean War, and later was assigned to Strikeforsouth supporting NATO in Naples, Italy.

During his 20 year Naval Career, he served on the USS Missouri, USS Wichita and the USS Taluga.  He taught classes at the Naval Academy, the Korean Naval Academy, and for Duke University. After retiring from the Navy, Coach Wilson worked as a civilian for the Naval Academy, where he served for 20 years as the Naval Academy publications officer, where he won numerous national awards for his work there.

Coach Wilson coached youth sports for 47 years.  Three years with the Black Knights in Arlington, Virginia, thirty-nine years with Green Hornets and five years with the Maryland 3D Basketball Club. Coach Wilson guided many teams to the Maryland State and National AAU Basketball Championships.  For more than 40 years, Coach Wilson organized and ran a free basketball clinic for boys and girls each summer on the courts behind the Severna Park High School.

Before basketball, Coach Wilson also coached Youth Football for ten years. He enjoyed reading car and sports magazines.

Coach was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years Mary Lou Wilson and his sister Betty A. Hamberg.

He is survived by his sons, Edward "Chip" (Pamela), Steve (Mylene), Jim (Sandy) and Mark (Sue), grandchildren; Jennifer, Haley, Carley, Lisa, Tucker, Josh, Dustin, and Harry, and 4 great grandchildren.

Friends may visit at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home on Saturday, January 17th, from 2-4 & 6-8pm with a Funeral Service at 3:30pm.

A Celebration of his Life and Luncheon will be held on Sunday, January 18th, from 1-4pm at the Annapolis Elks Lodge, 2 Pythian Drive in Annapolis.

Internment with Military Honors will be held on Monday, January 19th, at 10:30am at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 West Central Avenue in Davidsonville

For friends and family who would like to take part in the funeral procession to Lakemont Memorial Gardens for Coach Wilson's interment, please arrive at the funeral home no later than 9:45am on Monday, January 19th to have your vehicle placed in the procession.
