Professor Cirila Antolovic Djordjevic, 90, passed away on April 30, 2016, at Morningside House of Friendship in Hanover, MD.
She was born on February 13, 1926 in Zapresic, Yugoslavia and previously lived in Williamsburg, VA; Zagreb, Croatia; and Dobova, Slovenia. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1968, residing in Williamsburg, VA, and became a U.S. citizen in 1976. Cirila received her Ph.D. in 1959 from University College, London and a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Zagreb in 1950, where she met her husband, Branislav Branko Djordjevic. She retired in 1992 as Garrett-Rob-Guy Professor of Chemistry at The College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia.
Professor Djordjevic has extensive publication records and research accomplishments in synthesis, structure, and properties of transition metal complexes with a focus on the vanadium and molybdenum systems. She was the recipient of much recognition including, The College of William and Mary's 1991 Jefferson Award.
Dedicated to teaching and research, she enjoyed relaxing in the family cottage in Nags Head, NC and worldwide travel - often accompanied by her husband, Branko.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ivan Antolovic, and her mother, Cirila Antolovic (nee Pecnik), and her husband of 67 years, Branislav Djordjevic, who passed away February 27, 2016.
She is survived by her son, Borislav Boro Djordjevic, and her daughter-in-law, Nancy Grant Djordjevic, both of Severna Park, and two loving granddaughters, Christine Antolovic Djordjevic and Julie Owen Djordjevic, both of Maryland.
A Memorial is planned for June 12, 2016 at 2 PM, Wren Chapel, The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA.
