Chesleigh Waggoner

Chesleigh LeRoy Waggoner, 85, of Arnold, died of complications of cancer Nov. 8 at his home after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Waggoner was born in Emerson in Thurston County, Neb., on Jan. 20, 1922, and was reared in Nebraska and San Jacinto, Calif. He resided in Severna Park for 54 years.

He graduated from San Jacinto High School and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He had worked as a correctional officer at Patuxent Institution.

Mr. Waggoner volunteered with the Arnold Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Severna Park Ward. He enjoyed archery and fishing.

Surviving are his wife, Marie H. Hawthorne Waggoner, whom he married on Nov. 5, 1947; two daughters, Sharon Merrill of Newbury Park, Calif., and Priscilla D. Williams of Arnold; one son, Duane L. Waggoner of Cape St. Claire; four sisters, Florine Drinkwine of San Jacinto, Lulu Davis of La Porte, Ind., Harriet Hillier of Ferndale, Wash., and Bessie Havens of Hesperia, Calif.; one brother, Harry Waggoner of Eugene, Ore.; 14 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

He was the son of the late Perry L. and Lulu A. Brueger Waggoner and the brother of the late Perry Waggoner.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1875 Ritchie Highway, Annapolis. Burial will be in Meadowridge Memorial Park, 7250 Washington Blvd., Elkridge.
