Cheryl Anne Moore, 46,Director of Day Programs for Gallagher Services, an agency affiliated with Catholic Charities that serves developmentally disabled individuals, died Monday, May 31, 2004 after a 7 year battle with breast cancer.
Ms. Moore was born October 9th, 1957 in Altoona, PA to Marion and the late A. Thomas Moore. She graduated from Altoona Area High School in 1975 and from Pennsylvania State University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development.
For over 22 years, Ms. Moore had made a difference in the lives of children and adults with developmental disabilities. While working for Gallagher, Ms. Moore was instrumental in the concept, design and development of a greenhouse training facility. The greenhouse, known as Shamrock Gardens, enabled the individuals to learn valuable employment skills as well as providing beautiful flowers to area businesses and residents.
Since her original cancer diagnosis in 1997, Ms. Moore was an active volunteer for the American Cancer Society. Devoting a great deal of time and energy, Ms. Moore chaired the Anne Arundel Community College Relay For Life as well as served on the Regional Relay For Life planning committee.
Ms. Moore was a resident of Severna Park for the past 7 years. She attended St. Bernadette Parish in Severn.
Surviving are her partner of 19 years, Janice Urban also of Severna Park; her mother, Marion Fanelli and step-father Louis Fanelli of Altoona, PA; a brother, Thomas Moore and his wife, Shelia Moore of State College, PA; two nephews, Matt and Mark Moore of State College, PA; three step-brothers – Louis Fanelli of CT, Steven Fanelli of CA, Thomas Fanelli of IL; a step-sister, Pattie Geesey of PA and two step-nieces, Kristina and Alyssa.
Visitation will be on Thursday, June 3rd from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Barranco and Sons Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD 21146. A funeral Mass will be offered on Friday June 4th at St. Bernadette Parish, 801 Stevenson Road, Severn, MD 21144.
